Ichino Denichigama is a pottery specialising in flowerpots that has been in existence for three generations in Tamba Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture.
With a history of over 800 years, Tamba Tachikui-yaki is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, and has produced and sold pottery directly to meet the demands of the time.
In the 1960s, the pottery was discovered by the folk art movement led by Muneyoshi Yanagi, and its rustic texture was widely introduced.
Denichi Ichino, the founder of the company, originally made ceramics to meet the needs of his customers, one of which was flowerpots, which he devised in his own unique way to improve ventilation and water retention.
Then, about 50 years ago, a wildflower enthusiast asked the company to produce special pots for him, and the company started making flowerpots with plants in mind.
Today, the company continues to inherit its accumulated knowledge and wisdom and pursue originality without changing its form.
