【NEW ARRIVAL】INDEN-YA YUSHICHI UEHARA|KOUSHU INDEN

The Uehara family of Indenya (Indenya) began as armourers and was founded in 1582.

They created a unique technique of applying a pattern in lacquer to deerskin and developed it as ‘Koshu Inden’.

The name derives from deerskin imported from the Dutch East India Company in the 17th century.

During the Edo period (1603-1868), it permeated the culture of the townspeople as a chic decorative item and was influenced by auspicious patterns and Indian chintz.

Inden is characterised by the harmony between the soft, light deerskin and the lacquer, which deepens over time.

Lacquering requires a skilled craftsmanship and is said to take more than three years to master.

The tradition, which has been handed down for over 400 years, continues to evolve in the modern age and is also attracting attention as a fashion item.

This time, too, there is a line-up of many new Indenya originals born from traditional patterns.

Please take a look at the designs that reflect the nature and seasons of Japan.
