Karagen, which manufactures karakami (traditional Japanese paper), was founded during the Kan'ei period (1624-1645), the Edo period.
Karakami is a type of paper introduced from Tang (China) during the Heian period (794-1185). At that time, it was used as paper for writing waka poems. Today, karakami is used for interior decorations such as fusuma sliding doors.
We want people to feel the quality of karakami more easily and more familiar with it.
With this in mind, we are passing on the art of karakami to future generations through the production of small items such as pouch bags and congratulatory gift bags.
Please take a look at the beauty created by traditional techniques and the warmth of our handmade products.
