Syouryu is the brand of Shimatani Syouryu Kobo, a bronze casting company located in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture.
In 1909, Shimatani Shoryu Koubou was founded to preserve the art of keisu making, a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation since the Edo period.
Keisu are copper bowls found in temples, and are tools used by Buddhist monks to strike before reciting sutras or praying.
We are proud of our family business of making Buddhist altar utensils and have launched this new brand in an effort to create products that match the modern age as we confront traditional techniques on a daily basis.
The "bendable and stretchable vessels," which take advantage of the characteristics of 100% tin, are a new type of craftwork.
We hope you will try it for yourself.
