History
Using “Fusuma” in Modern Interiors
Kikuchi Fusuma Manufacturing was established in 1924 when a group of craftsmen gathered in Sumida-ku, Tokyo and began manufacturing fusuma paper.
At that time, there was a growing demand for materials to rebuild buildings and houses that had collapsed due to the Great Kanto Earthquake.
Later, with the reconstruction after the Pacific War, the need for fusuma paper became even greater.
In 1948, we established Kikuchi Fusuma Manufacturing Co. Ltd.
Fusuma is a partition that divides space in Japanese houses.
Since ancient times, fusuma has been used to decorate spaces according to the seasons and for different purposes.
In the Edo period (1603-1868), fusuma were used to decorate the interior of houses with gorgeous gold leaf paintings and scenes of Japan's beautiful four seasons.
Home interiors have changed with the times.
Today, we are developing products that match the diversified lifestyles of people, and at the same time, we are creating a traditional craft team to pass on the traditional techniques of fusuma to future generations.
We produce each "IPPINSHU" by hand, fusing traditional beauty with modernity.
Characteristic
Art Panels for the Four Seasons
Fusuma has been used since ancient times to freely partition living spaces and make them more comfortable.
People who lived in the house enjoyed imagining the scenery and events of the four seasons through the pictures and patterns on the fusuma.
They were also used to welcome important guests.
We have inherited the traditional technique of "Edo Karakami".
We use gold and silver leaf and mica powder to delicately express the changing seasons and beautiful scenery on the richly textured Japanese paper.
Two sizes are available, 12 in. square and 6 in. square.
Both are 1 in. thick, and can be attached to the wall with pins or placed on a shelf.
The design is also applied to the surface and sides of the panel, giving it a luxurious look from any angle.
These panels can be displayed in the entrance, living room, bedroom, or anywhere else, harmonizing with the rest of the interior and adding a point of interest.
By simply changing the panels for each season or event, you can refresh your mind as if you were redecorating, and enjoy creating an elegant space.
For Customers
Interior Art in Harmony with Tradition and Modernity
We produce IPPINSHU, art panels that harmonize with the modern home, based on the traditional Japanese fusuma technique.
We carefully select tools and materials, and engage in numerous production processes by hand with great care.
The square panels give a sophisticated impression.
Whether they are the same size or different sizes, they create a rhythm when placed side by side and create a modern Japanese space when displayed in a Western room.
They can be easily hung with the included pushpins and can stand on their own.
How about giving them as gifts to your loved ones for new construction, moving house, or other commemorative gifts?
