History
In pursuit of things that move the hearts of people around the world
“KAMI NO SHIO" is a brand produced by HEARTH Corporation, established in Tokyo in 2017.
In our pursuit of "things that move our hearts" around the world, we have noticed that while more and more people in Japan are adopting sophisticated interior furniture and accessories from overseas, more and more people are also skillfully incorporating traditional Japanese crafts and good old things into their living spaces.
What caught our attention was the traditional custom of “kami no shio” or in English, "pile of salt.” It has long been said that salt has a purifying effect and keeps away misfortune and impurities.
Even today, many people use it to wish for good luck and to ward off misfortune, but it is undeniable that many people have the image that "it looks difficult to adopt" or that "there is nothing fashionable" about it.
Therefore, we set out breath new life into the ancient Japanese custom of “pile of salt” by turning it into a modern interior decoration for homes, offices, and restaurants.
We felt it was necessary to commission a designer who loved Japanese beauty and had his own aesthetic sense and design philosophy, without being bound by stereotypes, which was how we decided to work with Gwenael Nicolas, who not only deals with product design but is also internationally famous for his interior design.
After two years of work, a new "pile of salt” product "KAMI NO SHIO" was born, which can be placed in any space, Japanese or Western, and is beautiful and imparts the energy of the salt.
Characteristic
Beautiful products by world-class designers
Gwenael Nicolas wanted to create a minimalist design that would connect people to each other and to this custom into the future, while imagining harmony with nature.
This was how he decided on the concept of “pure” and “clean,” something timeless that’ll last even 200 years into the future.
The important thing was to make the salt, which purifies the body and brings good luck, as conspicuous as possible, and he made the shape of the salt container a hexagon, meaning "stability and harmony.
” The glass container for the salt, which has evolved into a modern design with a sense of transparency, fits in well wherever it is placed and creates communication among people who see it, and the energy of the salt can be felt.
The salt included in the package is made by boiling down seawater collected from the deep sea in Mie Prefecture, and then carefully preparing it using a time-consuming method which removes only the water content.
It is said that the items dedicated to the Ise Jingu Shrine have "life" in them, and that they possess a mysterious power that leads the bearer to "happiness" and "good health.
” That’s why “KAMI NO SHIO" is dedicated to the Ise Jingu Shrine’s Kaguraden Hall.
The paulownia box is made by a kamikodai wooden box store in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture.
Paulownia wood has long been used for storing important things as the tree is said to bring good luck and happiness, making it an ideal gift.
For Customers
To purge away misfortune and open the way for good fortune.
In recent years, more and more people are placing “Pile of salt” in their homes to make them power spots based on the concept of feng shui, which purifies spaces and increases luck.
Some examples are: the front door, which is said to purify the bad luck that comes in from outside and attract good luck; the kitchen, which is said to balance fire and water and purify bad luck in the home; the living room and bedroom, which are said to purify spaces where people spend a lot of time and bring in good luck; the bathroom, which is said to be a place where luck easily falls; and so on.
Place it in places where you spend a lot of time and where you want to improve your luck, such around your desk, bookshelves, and dining tables, and spend your days with a refreshed mind.
However, we recommend that you always keep the place where you place the “Pile of salt” clean and change the salt regularly.
