Description
Takeko Kaizawa
Ponnikapumpe is the Ainu word for "small patterned goza."
The goza, with its pattern of large and small diamond shapes spreading out from the center, was once a sacred object used in ceremonial occasions.
The beautiful patterns are woven by gathering high-quality cattail reeds and elm bark and dyeing them with nuts.
Kaizawa has been mastering various traditional techniques since he was a child and is currently designated as an "Ainu Association Outstanding Craftsman" and "Ainu Cultural Foundation Traditional Craftsman".
He puts a lot of time and effort into his creations, starting with the gathering of raw materials. This piece shows off that effort and will add a touch of flair to any interior.
