The Ainu have long coexisted with bears, considering them gifts from the gods.
This work is a wall hanging with a relief of a brown bear's face, carved of linden wood.
Ainu wood carving is a craft that was traditionally handed down from father to son.
The artist studied under his father, the late woodcarver Kunio Yamada, and has created numerous works that have won the Hokkaido Governor's Prize and other awards.
The bear mask, like a hunting trophy, is an item that will elevate your interior design and will make a great gift.
